Esprit watches (Esprit Uhren) and various types of (Uhren) are among the most ancient tools that man has been using. The clock is actually one of the oldest inventions made by man based on recorded history events. It was created as a tool which would be able to consistently measure shorter intervals of time than the day, the month and the year. For horologists, the term clock refers to a device that has a striking mechanism that announces the intervals of time acoustically through a set of chimes or the ringing of a bell. Today, time pieces and watches are considered as one of the necessary accessories of man as they are useful in almost any type of activity and profession. Some of the watch brands which offer classic designs with numerous features would include Fossil and Esprit watches.
One of the oldest types of clock would be the sundial. A sundial can be used to measure the time through looking at the shadow cast by the sun. Sundials were widely used during the ancient times, as proven by archaelogical finds. A well-designed sundial can measure time with reasonable accuracy back then, which is why they were used in monitoring the performance of clocks up until the modern era. Aside from sundials, historians discovered that incense sticks and candle clocks which burn down at predictable speeds have been used in estimating the passing of time. Another instrument which has been used to measure time would be an hourglass. An hourglass has fine sand which pours through a small hole at a constant rate, indicating a predetermined passage at a given time period.
Another ancient device used for time measurement would be water clocks, which are almost as old as sundials. The simplest form of the water clock would be the one which has a bowl-shaped outflow. This type of water clock is known to have been used in Egypt and Babylon around the 16th century BC. However, there are evidence that suggests water clocks have also been used in China and India. There are also some historical authors that say water clocks have been used in other regions of the world as early as 4000 BC.
The water clock is said to have given way to the development of the complex gearing which can be found in modern clocks and watches of today. Credit goes to the ancient Roman and Greek civilizations for initially advancing the evolution of the design of the water clock. These advances were carried out through the Islamic and Byzantium times and eventually made their way to Europe. In the Eastern hemisphere, the Chinese were also able to develop their own water clocks and passed on their ideas to Japan and Korea.
